About Neutral Milk Hotel

Indie Rock

Indie rock collective Neutral Milk Hotel emerged from the early-2000s lo-fi scene, blending raw acoustic guitars, brass flourishes, and Jeff Mangum’s emotive, high-falsetto vocals into a haunting, folk-inflected sound. Their seminal album cemented a reputation for surreal lyricism and a DIY aesthetic that set them apart from mainstream indie acts. Known for intense, emotionally charged live shows, the band cultivated a cult following, with performances often described as cathartic and unpredictable, punctuated by brief reunions that sparked fervent fan excitement. After a series of reunion dates in the mid-2010s, the group has not announced new touring plans and remains inactive, with the most recent documented concert occurring in 2015.
