About Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
American heartland rock outfit Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers forged a timeless blend of jangly guitars, melodic hooks, and earnest storytelling that defined classic rock radio from the 1970s through the early 2000s. The band earned a reputation for tight, high-energy live shows that captured the chemistry of its four-member lineup and often featured extended solos and audience-singalong moments. Following Tom Petty’s death in 2017 the group disbanded permanently; a one-off reunion performance at the Americana Awards in September 2026 served as a tribute, and the estate released a 50th-anniversary box set, but no touring or new shows are planned.
